TM Pathways Progress Export

Installation & User Guide

Version 2.0.0 - Limited Release

What This Is

TM Pathways Progress Export is a small browser extension that generates a snapshot report of every member's Pathways progress in your club. One click produces a clean, self-contained HTML file showing each member, their path, and their completion status for Levels 1 through 5 and Path Completion. The file downloads to your computer and can be opened in any browser, printed, or shared with your club's leadership.

It reads the same information you already see on the Pathways progress screen in Basecamp. It does not change anything in Basecamp, and it only works for people who can already view that screen (typically club officers).

Limited release: this extension is being shared with a small group and is not published in the Chrome Web Store. Please do not redistribute it beyond the group without checking first.

What You Need

Installation

  1. Unzip the file you received. You will get a folder named tm-pathways-export. Put it somewhere permanent (Documents is fine). Do not delete this folder later; the browser runs the extension directly from it.
  2. Open your browser and go to chrome://extensions (in Edge: edge://extensions).
  3. Turn on “Developer mode”. The switch is usually in the top-right corner of that page.
  4. Click “Load unpacked” and select the tm-pathways-export folder you unzipped.
  5. The extension appears in your list. Confirm it shows version 2.0.0 and is enabled.
  6. Optional but recommended: click the puzzle-piece icon in your toolbar and pin “TM Pathways Progress Export” so its button is always visible.
Note: because this is installed in Developer mode, your browser may occasionally show a startup message about developer-mode extensions. That is normal for any extension installed this way and can be dismissed.

Generating a Report

This is slow, and that is normal. There are two points where you MUST wait: first for the progress table to load, then again after you click Generate Report. Do not click repeatedly, refresh, or leave the page while you wait.
  1. Log in to Basecamp as usual and open the Pathways progress page: app.basecamp.toastmasters.org/dashboard/bcm-dashboard/paths-progress
  2. Wait for the progress table to appear. You MUST wait. This is slow: it will take more than 10–15 seconds, often 30–45 seconds (sometimes longer), before the table shows up. Do not continue until you can see the full table on the page.
  3. Click the extension's toolbar button, then click “Generate Report”.
  4. Now wait again. You MUST wait. After you click Generate Report it takes time to build the file: at least 15–20 seconds, usually 30–45. Do not click the button again or navigate away; let it finish.
  5. A file named pathways_progress_YYMMDD_HHMM.html downloads automatically. Open it in any browser to view or print.

The first time you do this, the extension automatically learns your club's ID from the page, so there is nothing to configure. On later visits you can run it again the same way; each report is timestamped, so you can keep a history of snapshots over time.

Settings (You Can Usually Skip This)

The extension has a Settings page, reachable from the link at the bottom of its popup. It exists only as a backup: if automatic detection ever fails, you can paste your club's ID there manually. In normal use you should never need it. If you were given a club ID by the person who provided this extension, that is where it goes.

Troubleshooting

If you see…Try this
“Open the Pathways progress page first…” The button was clicked from the wrong page. Go to the Pathways progress page in Basecamp, then click Generate Report from there.
“Couldn't find the club ID on this page yet…” The page had not finished loading its data. Wait for the table to appear, then click Generate Report again. If it keeps happening, reload the page fully and retry.
“Something went wrong: … HTTP 401 or 403” Your Basecamp login has expired or your account cannot view this club's progress. Log in to Basecamp again in the same browser and retry.
A message saying a newer version of the extension may be needed Basecamp may have changed since this version was built. Contact the person who provided the extension to ask whether an updated version is available.
The report downloads but looks empty or wrong Compare against the progress page itself. If the page shows data but the report does not match, report it as a problem (see Support below).

Updating

This extension does not update itself. When a new version is released, you will receive a new ZIP from the same person who provided this one. To update:

  1. Go to chrome://extensions and remove the old “TM Pathways Progress Export” entry.
  2. Delete the old tm-pathways-export folder.
  3. Unzip the new file and repeat the installation steps above.
